These photos are from when I went to The Rosehip Revue Burlesque show in Portland. It was such a great show and I was very excited to get to experience the Portland burlesque scene. Most people attending dressed in a vintage/40’s sort of style but I was pressed for time getting ready so I threw on quite a modern outfit without thinking about it (oh the horror).
Note the mixing of animal prints on the scarf and dress (oooh I’m sooo hip).
I have wanted a leopard print muff for awhile now and I unfortunately missed out on one that Urban Outfitters had awhile ago. Then I was watching Gentleman Prefer Blondes and lo and behold:
Marilyn Monroe is wearing this great leopard print muff! Which now makes me want one even more! Of course muffs are basically useless since everyone wears gloves (although I plan to wear both like Marilyn here) but it’s a style thing and not a lot of people wear them anymore so I like it. If I can’t find one by fall I might have to try to make my own.

After a small hiatus I am up and ready to hit the ground running. Here is something new I am very excited about:
This is my first sewing machine! I have always wanted one, and I am a great hand sewer but that gets difficult for big projects. I expect to get a lot of use out of this machine and I am learning how to use it properly and follow patterns etc. Dreams are happening here people. I also have some exciting collaborations in the works so stay tuned.
Well, this is my first outfit post! I have to preface it by saying that I am not in any way a master photographer or the world’s most photogenic person. So bear with me as I try to figure out how to take pictures of myself. Also, I feel it is important for me to disclose that for various reasons the majority of my wardrobe is on the other side of the country in storage. So, for the next few months I will have a very limited wardrobe and also limited good backdrops to take pictures in front of at my current location. Eventually I want outfit posts to be a main focus of this blog but for now due to these circumstances they will not happen every day. It will be a challenge to create new and interesting outfits with a limited wardrobe but that’s part of having style right? Once it gets a little warmer (or at least stops raining) I plan on taking photos outdoors as well which will make the photos a lot more interesting than the one below.
So clearly I don’t know how to pose either but you’ll just have to get used to that and this is the closest I could come to a blank wall (which seems to be an indoor blogger self portrait requisite haha) but it will do for now!

When I was growing up I was never allowed to paint my nails. I mean it, NEVER. My mom used to tell me that only hookers wear nail polish (and chew gum)…gee thanks mom! Of course I did not believe her since everyone I knew wore nail polish (and chewed gum) and they couldn’t all have been hookers. I sure did feel left out though! Surprisingly, once I left home I did not run right out and start getting my nails done. On the contrary I thought that people who always had painted nails were super high maintenance and while I might have been kind of high maintenance I was not SUPER high maintenance. Plus, I am a terrible nail biter.
