Dying for a Change

2010 was in most ways a terrible year for me. I was in no way sorry to see it go. It’s funny, when I look back at the year I realize that my dissatisfaction manifested itself through my constant change in hair color. I worked at a salon where I met many wonderful people but also where many people had their opinions on what I (and specifically my hair) should look like. I believe that hair is definitely an accessory and can be just as important to someone’s over all look and what they are trying to say about themselves as any article of clothing. Unfortunately I was feeling so unsure of myself that I let other people influence how I thought I should look. Thus, at different points in 2010, I had brown hair (both natural and dyed), blonde hair, and red hair. Prior to this I had never really thought about dying my hair, it just did not interested me. I really think that I was subconsciously trying to tell myself that I was unhappy and needed a change but of course hair color can’t solve problems! Now that it is all said and done I have this real longing to go back to my natural brown hair. At the moment, the red that I had has faded to light(ish) brown and is growing out. I don’t mind this for the spring/summer and since the grown out (or ombre) look is popular now I am just soooo hip. Come fall however it is back to natural brown for me! Like I said, I think hair is relevant to personal style which is why I have dedicated a post to it…that and I love my hair now, no matter what color it is! Below are pictures of me with all 3 hair colors.

I liked all my hair color changes at the time. I really loved the red but it was too damaging and high maintenance for me. I also realize now that I really hated being blonde and that is when I felt the least like my usual self. I guess I got to be Betty, Veronica, and Cheryl (I grew up on Archie comics) all in one year and I can say without a doubt that the best hair color is whatever feels the most natural to you. Whether it is actually natural or not is between you and your stylist!
